Introduction to this website

This website is a project dedicated to the memory of Renato Zanette (1951-1996) and gather his artworks through almost thirty years of activity.

Since 2010 a research has begun which led to the identification of more than three hundreds of his paintings thanks to the collaboration of relatives and friends, both inside and outside the world of art. Of these works, there have been selected the more significants, considering the content and the quality of the recovered images.

It is necessary to consider that it has not always been possible to reach some artworks by the fact that Renato has donated or sold his paintings basically throughout all his artistic experience.

About some of these artworks we have proof thanks to the material he left to us, like from photographs in old diapositive format or in documents from various personal expositions.
There are however lost paintings which probably should deserve to be in this collection. The hope is to find those one day and add them to this website.

Furthermore, there are also some pictures of lithograph prints and some sketches, like preparatory drawings and others, to bear witness of a very intense production.

Notes on cataloguing

It was not easy to date every painting, indeed some of them are not even signed. The memory of the actual owners has not been always flawless when the right date was found afterwards. It must been said that many paintings were donated or sold only after several time from their creation, remaining even years in the artist’s atelier. However, a chronologic order has been traced considering the different changes in style. Hoping to have reduced possible mistakes, some paintings are marked with estimation where the date is uncertain.

There have been some difficulties for the titles as well. The artworks where the titles are known come from the documents of the exhibitions, from the list of the artist or in some cases they are written directly on the other side of the painting. There are however some titles with very fascinating names but they are difficult to correlate, at least with the material we have today. Therefore, it has been decided to leave untitled the artworks with an uncertain denomination.
